While I got my start with freelance tech gadget reviews and buying guides, I’ve expanded to news coverage and longer pieces focused on the broader world of technology. That means I’ve written a lot about technology policy and business, space, social media, products, services, and entertainment, including gaming. I have experience conducting interviews for deeper reports, as well as quickly vetting and disseminating news stories.

• How to build a bike lane in America — I interviewed cycling advocates in three different cities and two states to find out about the different challenges they face when it comes to educating people about cycling and making US roadways friendlier for cyclists and pedestrians.

• Wi-Fi is one of the great backward compatibility success stories — To get to the bottom of Wi-Fi’s backward compatibility, which stretches back to the first version of the standard, I spoke with two Wi-Fi equipment maker executives and an executive from the Wi-Fi Alliance.

• A San Francisco library is turning off Wi-Fi at night to keep people without housing from using it — We received a tip about this. After investigating and conducting interviews, I wrote about it.

• We’ll always have Mario Kart: the short-lived joy of console LAN parties — Shortly after I started at The Verge, I pitched writing about how much fun it was to fill your tiny apartment with hot TVs, pizza, and nerds.

• More than 1,300 rallies worldwide protest Trump and Musk — A collection of social media posts, with images and video, of the massive anti-Trump / Musk "Hands Off” protests that took place in early April 2025. A couple of weeks later, I covered a second set of similar protest actions.

• Wii Homebrew Channel development shuts down over ‘stolen’ code — I identified this story that our news room otherwise might have skipped, as others vetting at the time didn’t clock this as a signficant piece of the classic gaming emulation scene.

• Pete Hegseth reportedly spilled Yemen attack details in another Signal Chat — this story dropped right as I was finishing my weekend shift. I was able to write, self-edit, and publish the story within about 30–40 minutes, having also covered a previous development in this story.

• Wait, why is the White House using Starlink to ‘improve Wi-Fi’? — We just thought that was an absurd excuse.

• The Vision Pro’s ultrawide Mac display is very close to being a killer app — I bought a Vision Pro at first just to try and return it, but ultimately kept it. This was one of the times where Apple did something with it that I liked enough to write about it.

• Here’s some cool stuff you can do with Bluesky — A guide for getting the most out of the Bluesky social network.

• Apple AI notification summaries exist; rarely useful, often hilarious — After experiencing the worst of AI summaries are on iOS, I pitched a story about it.

• Former Disney employee sentenced to three years for menu hacking — An interesting story that only got more interesting after I went into the court documents.

• Best Buy is laying off more employees as it reckons with falling sales — Following a tip, I interviewed current and former employees to find out what was going on here.

• Best Buy is shutting down its Samsung repair program — Another reported Best Buy story based on interviews.

• At 21 years old, the iMac G4 is still down to party — I carried out a project to convert an old iMac G4 into an external monitor. I still use it for that purpose.

• The best thing about my Mac Studio is its mustache — On a slow news Sunday, I decided to write about how the upside of Apple’s minimalism is that it leaves room to have fun.

• Tim Cook says he uses every Apple product every day — how does that work? — an exploration of a claim that’s very silly if you take it literally.

• The Internet Archive hackers still have access to its internal emailing tools — I wrote this one after being emailed by the hackers.

• From AOL Time Warner to DirecTV and Dish: 20 years of media mergers — A timeline.

• In defense of the iPhone Action Button — I really like building automations and, apparently, menus.

• There’s more to this year’s smartphones than AI — I lobbied for this reported out story after clocking a trend that saw even iPhones getting more RAM and seeing indications that this was a direct result of AI.

• A nightly Waymo robotaxi parking lot honkfest is waking San Francisco neighbors — I don’t recall how I came across that this was happening, but I ended up corresponding with the person who runs a YouTube livestream of a Waymo storage lot in which the cars were getting backed up and honking at eachother when they all returned at night or left in the morning.

• ‘You are a helpful mail assistant,’ and other Apple Intelligence instructions — I came across a Reddit post and dove into it.

Comedy voice

I also like to be funny. I did most of my comedy writing for The Inventory, though I’ve snuck things in elsewhere. Here are a few samples.

• Beard-straightener deal | The Inventory — Inspired by the model’s vacant expression in the product shot, I turned this deal into a short story about a guy who did bad things.

• This cast iron deal made Twitter angry | The Inventory — I added cast iron care “tips” to this one accompanied by a photoshop of cast iron pans in a picture of a soap-filled sink. It apparently triggered some people (although those posts seem to have since disappeared) and Lodge, the company that makes them, got involved.

• Make your morning more complicated (pour-over coffee deal) | The Inventory — This one is really just here because I was proud of the lede art.

• Horrifying robot cat kit deal | The Inventory — It was hard to try to be funny without falling back on the Futurama joke about robots.

• Make standing in the corner cool again with this lamp | The Inventory — I actually think this lamp is terrible.

• RatVerified hashtag (it should’ve been #ratified | The Shortcut — I was sad #ratified didn’t make it.

• Dollar Flight Club deal where I ignored the Fight Club joke | The Shortcut — Not the voiciest thing I’ve written, but the hero image was a good joke to me.

• Twitter Blue is terrible and confusing | The Shortcut — Boy, that Twitter transition was good, right?

• That time Musk banned twitter celebrities | The Shortcut — There are a lot of good Musk images to use for headline reaction faces.
